First day at school for pupils at Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd

Pupils in Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd have started lessons at their brand new £5.3million school for the first time.

The new bilingual church school opposite Bron y Clwyd opened on February 26 after moving from the previous building on Wrexham Road.

The project was jointly funded between Denbighshire County Council and Welsh Government as part of the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools and Education programme, in partnership with the Diocese of St Asaph.

The school will provide new classrooms, additional learning areas, a reflection area, hall, community room, external play areas, new vehicle access and car parking with a drop-off area.

Bodelwyddan-based Wynne Construction was the main contractor for the project.

Helen Oldfield, headteacher, said: “The school and governing body are delighted with the new school. Today’s opening heralds a new era for a generation of pupils at Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd.

“The works provide pupils with an amazing learning environment, which the students will benefit from for years to come.

“I would like to thank the project team and Wynne Construction for their hard work on the project.”

Cllr Huw Hilditch-Roberts, the Council’s Lead Member for Education, Children’s Services and Public Engagement, said: “Seeing the children’s reaction to their new school was fantastic. Final countdown to the opening of the new Ysgol Llanfair DC

Final preparations are being made ahead of the opening of a new school in Llanfair DC.

The new bilingual church school will open after the February half term when pupils will make the short move from the current site on Wrexham Road to the new site located on land opposite Bron y Clwyd.

Council officers have been working with the school to plan for the opening day and further information will be sent to parents, while staff will be on hand on the opening day.

Ysgol Llanfair DC moves another step closer to completion

The construction of a new Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd will reach another milestone this week as internal works reaches completion.

The new bilingual church school is being built on land opposite Bryn y Clwyd, Llanfair. It is jointly funded between Denbighshire County Council and Welsh Government as part of the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools and Education programme, in partnership with the Diocese of St Asaph.

The new building will provide a transformation of the teaching and learning environment for the pupils and teachers of Ysgol Llanfair.  The move will see them leave their cramped main building and mobile classrooms and see them move into state of the art facilities where for the first time they will have a main hall which will include a dining area away from their classrooms and bright and airy classrooms with direct access to the external areas.

Bodelwyddan-based Wynne Construction are the main contractor for the construction who started on site in June 2018.

The next phase of the works will be to undertake the connection of the foul and surface water drainage to the new school and to complete works to the external areas, including the forming of the main entrance and the new car park.  Once issues regarding the drainage has been resolved, the Council will be in a position to confirm when the school will be moving in to the new site.

Geraint Jones Chair of Governors for Ysgol Llanfair DC said: “The building is progressing well and the new facilities look fantastic. I’m looking forward to the planned visits for all pupils to see the new building before the end of term. Everyone is very excited for the completion of the new school and we are looking forward to moving to the new site once the remaining works have been complete”.

Key stage 2 pupils from Ysgol Llanfair DC and Ysgol Carreg Emlyn have taken a sneaky peek at their new schools, as the building work progresses on the sites.

A new bilingual church school, in partnership with the Diocese of St Asaph, is being built on land opposite Bryn y Clwyd, Llanfair DC while in Clocaenog a new single site school for Ysgol Carreg Emlyn is being built to replace the current sites in Cyffylliog and Clocaenog.

Both schools are being funded through the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools programme, in partnership with investment from Denbighshire County Council, which forms part of a £90 million investment in Denbighshire schools.

Alison Hourihane, Business and Community Development Manager, Wynne Construction said: “We are delighted to welcome the pupils to visit the sites in Llanfair DC and Clocaenog. This has provided them with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with their new school and its surroundings.  During the tour, we also looked at the building plans and highlighted the types of construction skills involved in the build.  Pupils also had the opportunity to see the workforce in action”.

Both schools are expected to open in the summer term 2019.

Work progresses at two schools in Denbighshire

Pupils have been putting their mark on two new schools in Denbighshire, which will see nearly £10million invested in rural education in the county.

Students from Ysgol Carreg Emlyn and Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd have taken part in panel signing ceremonies as work on both schools progresses.

They have had the chance to sign panels which make up the structure for their new school buildings.

A new bilingual church school, in partnership with the Diocese of St Asaph, is being built on land opposite Bryn y Clwyd, Llanfair while in Clocaenog a new single site school for Ysgol Carreg Emlyn is being built.

Both schools are being funded through the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools programme, in partnership with investment from Denbighshire County Council.

Cllr Huw Hilditch-Roberts, lead member for Education, Children and Young People, said: “It has been encouraging to see pupils at both schools take such an interest in their new school buildings.

“Supporting our young people and making sure they have modern school facilities that further enhance their education is a priority for the Council and these new facilities are part of a £90m investment in Denbighshire schools.

“Work is progressing well at both sites and both schools are expected to be open by the summer of next year.”

At Ysgol Carreg Emlyn the installation of the structural insulated panels is complete with windows set to be installed in the coming weeks ahead of internal works.

At Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd work on the installation of structural insulated panels commenced at the start of September.

 

Special milestone for Ysgol Llanfair DC

A turf cutting ceremony has marked the first stage of the building of a brand new replacement school for Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd.

The new bilingual church school will be built on land opposite Bryn y Clwyd, Llanfair using funding from the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools and Education programme, in partnership with investment from Denbighshire County Council.

The project forms part of more than £90million of investment in Denbighshire’s schools within the wider 21st Century Schools programme funded by Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Government.

Bodelwyddan-based Wynne Construction is the main contractor appointed to carry out the works.

Councillor Huw Hilditch-Roberts, Cabinet Lead Member for Education, Children, Young People and the Welsh Language, said: “This is an extremely momentous day in the history of Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd.

“We have recognised that the current facilities are dated and are in desperate need of modernisation. There has also been concerns about the lack of car parking, staff areas, public areas and accessibility to the school, which is located on the busy A525 in the centre of the village. That is why the Council, working in partnership with Welsh Government, has invested significantly in this project and we are delighted to see work get underway.

“This heralds a new era for generation of pupils at Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd and we look forward to seeing first class facilities being developed on the site over the coming months”.

Exciting plans to build a brand new primary school in Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd have taken a significant step forward – with the completion of the land purchase for the development of the new school.

The current school site is located on Wrexham Road in Llanfair DC.  The new school will be located close on a larger site in Bron y Clwyd.  Now the sale has been signed and sealed, it means construction work on building the new school will commence later on this summer.

This project is being funded by Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Government through its 21st Century Schools and Education Capital Programme. Wynne Construction are the main contractors appointed to carry out the works.

Green light for Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd new school building

Plans to build a brand new primary school in Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd have been approved by members of Denbighshire County Council’s Planning Committee.

Members voted for the development on over a hectare with land for the primary school, including external play areas, habitat area, formation of new vehicular access, car parking with drop off area, landscaping, bin store, LPG and sprinkler tanks and associated pedestrian links.

The new school will be built on land opposite Bryn y Clwyd, Llanfair using funding from the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools and Education programme, as well as investment from Denbighshire County Council.

Councillor Huw Hilditch-Roberts, Cabinet Lead Member for Education, Children, Young People and the Welsh Language, said: “I’m delighted that the Planning Committee has approved the planning proposal. This gives us the green light to progress with building the brand new facilities.
